The Erie Cottage is located in an established cottage area along Lake Erie. Small lots along the lakefront have vacation cottages, with direct access to the lake. The challenge that the client came to Bind Architecture was to replace an old, worn-out cottage with a new build. There were strict development controls in the area, allowing us to only have the same house coverage as the existing, and not change the existing setbacks. A simple, classic design was developed, using Hardieplank board and baton siding for the exterior, with white detailing, and a porch and deck facing the lake. The interior is cottage-contemporary, with lots of windows, wood tones, and classic touches. A large loft was designed for the vaulted ceiling, with a balcony overlooking the main living area.
